Fishing at Meadow Lane Lodge & Cottages
Fly fishing only / Catch & Release
Virginia fishing license required.

fly fishing for Virginia trout

The highly acclaimed and pristine Jackson River winds through Meadow Lane for 2 1/2 miles.  The Jackson River is renowned for providing some of the best trout fishing on the east coast.  Our picturesque, private section of the Jackson is healthy, vibrant and brimming with Rainbow Trout which we stock, weather & water conditions permitting, during the months of March, April, May, September, October, & November.  You  may also catch Native Smallmouth Bass, Red Eye Rock Bass, Brown Trout, Sunfish & McConnaughey Trout that "run up river" from Lake Moomaw in the early spring.  Guests staying at Meadow Lane do not pay a rod fee to fish the Jackson River.  There is a list of recommended flies below.

The Dinwiddie Stream is a spring creek that flows from our spring through 3 sections (upper, middle and lower) for over ¼ mile to the Jackson River. All sections are stocked with Rainbow and Brook trout. Please walk on the mowed paths to protect and avoid the willows and grasses providing natural cover for the fish. This pristine creek is located in a low-lying area and automobiles are strictly forbidden. You will see a parking area prior to reaching the stream.

Fishing the Diwiddie Stream

  • Only overnight guests staying at Meadow Lane may fish The Dinwiddie Stream
  • It is a non-wading stream
  • Fishing is on a “first come, first serve” basis.

The Slough

There are two ponds located in our Nature Preserve area known as "The Slough". The ponds are available for guests staying at Meadow Lane. They are stocked with Largemouth Bass, Red Ear Brim & Catfish. Children are welcome to fish with ulta-light spin gear with the barbs either removed or mashed down. Catch & Release only. Parking is clearly designated.

Day Fishing at Meadow Lane Lodge & Cottages

  • By Reservation only, email glenn@meadowlanecottages.com to make your reservation in advance

  • Sunday – Friday only, day fishing is not permitted on Saturdays.

  • Day Fishermen are not permitted to fish the Dinwiddie Stream

Please respect the designated areas for driving and parking. This is very important to us. Do not create any new tracks. Drive off the road only when you see that it has been mowed and park only in the mowed areas. Please respect this property, all of which is in Land Conservation with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. We ask for zero impact which means leaving nothing behind.
