Fly Fishing on Private Water If you are looking for the best trout fly fishing water on the east coast, Meadow Lane is a good place to start. We stock our 2.5 miles of private trout fly-fishing water on the acclaimed Jackson River with large Rainbow Trout. Our stretch of river offers every level of fun & challenge for the beginner to expert fly-fisherman. In addition to fishing the Jackson River, our guests are offered the opportunity to fish The Dinwiddie Spring Stream. The Dinwiddie Spring Stream has 3 sections, upper, middle and lower and flows from our spring to the Jackson River, a total distance of approximately 1/3 of a mile. All the sections are stocked with Brook and Rainbow Trout. Because the Dinwiddie Spring Stream is spring fed, the water level and water temperature (58 degrees) remains constant, even during periods of drought. There are no rod fees for our guests to fish our section of the Jackson River however there is a $25/rod fee for the Dinwiddie Spring Stream. Please refer to our Fishing Page for additional information. Meadow
Lane, located in beautiful Bath County which is nestled in the Allegheny
Mountains of western Virginia, is comprised of over 1400 mostly wooded
acres. We are 15 miles from the West Virginia, 3 hrs. from Richmond,
VA and
1 ½ hours
from both Charlottesville or Roanoke,
VA . Come and see why our guests are trying to keep this treasure a
secret! In 2007, The Mennen Environmental Foundation restored our wildlife sanctuary known as ‘The Slough”. Easily viewed from our deck, the sanctuary is home to all sorts of birds including eagles, ducks & turtles, deer & bears. And now the 2 ponds have been stocked with Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish & Brim. Although fishing in the ponds is catch & release (and no live bait) we hope to encourage kids to fish by allowing them to use ultra-light spin rods with the barbs either mashed down or removed. Meadow Lane has been owned by the Hirsh family for 5 generations. Our dedication to the preservation of this land has led us to obtain a conservation easement with the Virginia Outdoors Foundation ensuring that our farm remains an unspoiled place of beauty in perpetuity. |
Vacation Rental Cottages Meadow Lane has 6 fully equipped vacation rental cottages. Since the cottages are of various sizes & shapes and are scattered around the property each has a unique view; toward the mountains, reaching for the river, a long meadow or more centrally located near the pool, tennis court and the barnyard. The centrally located cottages seem to be the favorites of families with small children. The kids can see the horses in the fields and visit the barn where they can give apples to the horses, donkeys and goats. There are 3 peacocks at Meadow Lane but the kids barnyard favorite is still LeRoy the cat. Please refer to the Cottages & Rates page for additional information & pictures of the cottages.
The Lodge In 1978, Philip & Catherine Hirsh transformed the family farm into a successful Country Inn. Although the Lodge has been renovated and the big country breakfast is now a generous continental breakfast, the feeling at Meadow Lane dates back to 1927 when the property was acquired by Allen & Ellen Hirsh as their summer residence. They enjoyed their Thoroughbred horses & raising show quality Great Danes. The Lodge has 6 bedrooms, all with private bathrooms. Each bedroom is unique & may have a fireplace, screened porch, a living room, a separate entrance or a large deck. Internet access in available in the Garden room and there is also a large flat screen TV. 1860 House Built in 1860, remodeled in 2009 as our event location, the 1860 House, formerly a family residence, is conveniently located in the center of Meadow Lane. We will be offering Saturday night dinners to our Lodge & Cottage guests and booking large scale events at the House. Watch for our Events Page Link featuring the 1860 House coming in July. |
