Fly Fishing on Private Water If you are looking for the best trout fly fishing water on the
east coast, Meadow Lane is a good place to start. We stock our 2.5
miles of private trout fly-fishing water on the acclaimed Jackson River with large Rainbow Trout. Our stretch of river
offers every level of fun & challenge
for the beginner to expert fly-fisherman. There are no rod fee's for
our guests; fly fishing is included in our room/cottage rates. Meadow
Lane, located in the beautiful Bath County and nestled in the Allegheny
Mountains of western Virginia, is comprised of over 1400, mostly wooded
acres. We are 15 miles from the West Virginia, 3 hrs. from Richmond,
VA and
1 ½ hours
from both Charlottesville or Roanoke,
VA . Come and see why our guests are trying to keep this treasure a secret! Meadow Lane has been owned by the Hirsh family for five generations. Our
dedication to the preservation of this land has led us to obtain a
conservation easement through the Virginia Outdoors Foundation to ensure
that the farm remains an unspoiled place of beauty in perpetuity. In 2007, due to the extreme generosity of the Mennen Environmental
Foundation, our wildlife sanctuary known as "The Slough" was completely
restored. A home for birds, eagles, ducks, fish, turtles and deer is now viewable from "The Deck". |
Vacation Rental Cottages Meadow
Lane has 5 fully equipped vacation rental cottages. Since the cottages
are of various sizes and shapes and are scattered around the property,
each one has a unique view; toward the mountains, reaching for the
river, a long meadow or more centrally located near the pool, tennis
court, and the barnyard. The centrally located cottages tend to be
the favorites for families with small children. The kids can
see the horses in the field, visit the barn where they can give apples
to the horses, donkeys and goats. There are
8 peacocks on Meadow Lane but the barnyard cat, Leroy, is by far and
away the favorite of all the children. Leroy will move in with
you if you let him! Please refer to our Cottages & Rates page for additional
information and pictures.
The Lodge tIn 1970 Philip & Catherine Hirsh restored Gristmill Square in Warm Springs, adding the Waterwheel Restaurant; however in 1978 they turned their attention to transforming their farm into a County Inn, naming it Meadow Lane Lodge. Although the Lodge was renovated in 2007, the warm feeling of friendly hospitality continues. The Lodge was built in 1927 by Allan M. & Ellen Hirsh as their summer residence. At "the farm" they enjoyed their thoroughbred horses & raised Great Danes. Over time, their son Philip acquired the farm from his brothers. The lodge has 5 bedrooms (Steinway is a 2 bedroom suite making the actual number of bedrooms 6). All the bedrooms have private bathrooms, 2 bedrooms have screened porches, 1 has a fireplace and deck, 1 has a fireplace in a living room and the other has a private entrance. A continental breakfast is offered every morning. Please refer to our Lodge Rooms & Rates page for additional information & pictures. |
